Vale, Prof Bruce Albala.
We at Cogstate would like to express how deeply saddened we were to learn of the sudden passing of Bruce Albala, who served as a member of the Cogstate scientific advisory board. Across the past 15 years, Bruce has been our customer, collaborator, confidant, counsel and most importantly, incredibly dear friend.
Much will be said of Bruce’s scientific successes in other fora; here we wish to state just how sorry we are to no longer have him with us. Bruce always graced our company with clear advice, boundless enthusiasm, constructive criticism, and good humor.
Bruce was a man with big ideas, large expectations, and a massive heart. He dedicated his scientific life to seeking a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. The field is poorer, and certainly quieter, with his passing.
Bruce’s zest for life was driven as much by his family, as it was by his curiosity. We appreciate how strong a foundation Bernadette and his daughters provided for him. We send our sincere condolences to them, knowing this incalculable loss is something that cannot be soothed with words.
So, Bruce, see you later old buddy. We will seek to honor you and our relationship with you by continuing the fight with your commitment and zeal. You will always be with us, and I personally will cherish those small moments when you will suddenly reappear in my own memory, replete with stern approach, earnest Alabala-isms, and witty observations.
Truly, you will be deeply missed. Hinc illae lacrimae.
